Trust & transparency

Editorial and deal policy

A plain-language look at where the deals come from, how they get checked and what happens when something changes.

Where deal information comes from

I prefer restaurant websites, current menus and other first-party sources whenever they are available. Every deal card includes the source used and the date the special was last checked.

A check date isn’t a guarantee that nothing changed the next morning. Restaurants can update prices, days, hours and promotions quickly, which is why the source link is there for a final check.

Corrections are welcome

If you see a deal that has changed, use the “Report change” link on its card. Restaurant owners and visitors can also send a new deal or correction. I review submissions before they appear on the site.

Liquor information

Cheep Eats focuses on food. British Columbia guidance says an unlicensed third party may advertise where liquor is available and whether it is beer, wine or spirits, but may not advertise liquor brands, manufacturers or prices. For that reason, Cheep Eats doesn’t republish liquor brands or liquor prices. Use the restaurant’s own current menu for those details.

Read the Province of British Columbia's liquor advertising guidance.

Sponsored placement

Cheep Eats may offer clearly labelled sponsored or featured placement in the future. Paid placement will be marked as advertising and kept separate from ordinary editorial decisions. A restaurant won’t be able to pay to make an inaccurate or outdated deal look current.

Independence

Cheep Eats Victoria is an independent local guide. Listing a restaurant doesn’t mean the restaurant sponsors or endorses this website.
